Porcelaine bowl, ash glaze

87.00

Dimensions: 6cm H x 11.5cm W

A hand thrown and trimmed porcelain bowl.

The bowl’s organic shape and texture was created with my fingers and tools during the throwing process to create a pot that fits nicely in the hand. This piece was then decorated with a cobalt oxide* wash and my wood ash glaze before being reduction-fired for around 24 hours in my gas kiln.

My pots are dishwasher and food safe, but please take care and washing by hand is the best option. Personally, I always hand wash my pots and tend not to use them in the microwave. Unlike mass produced ceramics, each of my pots is a unique hand-made piece whose finish is greatly influenced by the how the kiln fire impacts the glaze. As a result, no two pieces are alike and they will never be reproduced exactly as is.

*Please note, I will no longer be producing pieces with cobalt oxide. Although cobalt gives wonderful deep blues, the extraction process for cobalt is quite ethically questionable. As a result, I have decided to remove cobalt from my workshop. This is one of the last pieces I have with this deep blue color.
