A hand thrown and trimmed vase.

This vase’s unique shape is the result of a particular throwing process. A rectangular block of clay is textured and then the inside and vase lip are thrown on the from the inside without touching the outside texture. The result is an organic and unique shape that combines hand building textures with smooth throwing lines. This piece was then decorated with layers of my iron saturate and Shino glazes before being reduction-fired for around 24 hours in my gas kiln.

Unlike mass produced ceramics, each of my pieces is a unique hand-made object whose finish is greatly influenced by the how the kiln fire impacts the glaze. As a result, no two pieces are alike and they will never be reproduced exactly as is.
